New: Keyence VH-Z20T and 3-D Profile Measurement Module (Software)

We use the digital microscope from Keyence to take microscopic images of surfaces for carrying out surface analyses. The high-performance zoom lens VH-Z20T is a new addition to our application and enables a high-resolution optical observation with a high depth of field.

In principle, digital microscopes are ideal for wear investigations due to their high depth of field, as they can be used to examine small structures very well and easily identify cracks, holes or other defects. Instead of the previous 50 times of magnification, up to 200 times of magnification is now possible. This even more sensitive measuring method enables more detailed surface and more precise damage analyses.

The VH-Z20T lens also has excellent telecentricity and delivers extremely clear images, even in depth composition or 3D images.

Telecentricity is a property of certain lenses consisting of several elements and is defined by the ability to keep the main rays parallel to the optical axis in the object and/or image space. The objective is highly telecentric over almost its entire magnification range, making measurements more precise, even when the sample is measured in the peripheral region.

In combination with this, we use 3D profile measurement module software. This enables a very simple, depth-focussed image to be taken via the focus variation and thus implements a 3D measurement. In the 3D display itself, analyses can be carried out by fading in the height colours. The profile or roughness measurement can be used for a more detailed analysis.
